Oil leakage from diesel engines manifests in various conditions, so our troubleshooting and treatment methods must be tailored to specific situations. The fuel injector is a precision component. If the engine uses unclean diesel or has been in service for a long time, wear on the injector can cause fuel return leakage.
However, since replacing injectors is expensive and uneconomical, the returned fuel can be routed back to the fuel tank or directed into the diesel filter via a return line to prevent loss. If the return line is damaged, a piece of plastic tubing can be used to direct the fuel into a separate container; after filtering, it can be poured back into the tank.
Secondly, oil leaks in the fuel delivery system should be handled appropriately based on the specific condition: If the washer under the hollow bolt of the fuel pipe is uneven, remove the washer, grind it flat, and reinstall it. If this does not resolve the issue, replace it with a new washer or cut one out of thicker soft plastic material.
Leaks at the junction between plastic fuel lines and metal fittings are mostly caused by hardening or cracking of the plastic tubing. You can cut away the hardened or cracked section, soften the remaining tube with hot water, quickly install it onto the metal fitting while it is still warm, and secure it tightly with wire. If a metal fuel line cracks and leaks, the crack can be repaired using copper brazing. Additionally, to prevent fuel lines from cracking during installation, ensure the bending radius is appropriate—do not force them into position. Keep the tubing away from the engine block to prevent abrasion damage.
When installing the valve cover, excessive tightening torque can easily deform it and cause oil leaks. In such cases, remove the leaking valve cover and carefully tap it with a mallet to reshape it until the mating surface is flat again. Then, reinstall it with a new gasket. Different parts of a diesel engine require different solutions for oil leaks; always exercise caution during repairs to avoid causing further damage to the machine.
