In laminated core transformers, the iron core primarily serves the following two functions:
Acting as a central medium for electromagnetic conversion, transferring electrical energy from the primary side to the secondary side.
Serving as a supporting skeleton for the coils and the active part (core and windings assembly).
To reduce losses, the following approaches can be considered:
Selecting high-quality core materials, such as using cold-rolled silicon steel sheets with lower specific loss, or opting for amorphous alloy cores.
Employing excellent stacking craftsmanship, ensuring the core is neither subjected to excessive stress nor insufficient clamping pressure (note that amorphous alloy cores are highly sensitive to mechanical stress and must not be subjected to stress).
Optimizing the joint design, such as reducing the number of joints, increasing the joint area, increasing the number of stacking steps (stair-stepping), and adopting mitered (diagonal) joints to expand the joint area and reduce magnetic losses at the joints.
Appropriately lowering the calculated magnetic flux density of the core.
